AIM Big Band
1.00pm - Sunday, February 12 - Cross Street Music Hall
The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) big band formed by Daryl McKenzie at the Melbourne campus in 2014. The band consists of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from the Contemporary Performance course with a few staff and volunteer members helping to fill the brass section. The AIM big band is under the direction of former University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab band member Niels Rosendahl while the AIM Big Band Singers are under the direction of highly respected Melbourne singer Louisa Rankin.
The band’s repertoire is chosen from the classic big band charts of Count Basie, Thad Jones, Bill Holman (to name a few) and also contributions from AIM staff including Andrew Murray and Daryl McKenzie plus contemporary charts by AIM arranging and composition students.
The band has performed at the Big Band Sunsets festival in Mordialloc, at AIM open days and concerts, plus performed at this year’s Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues
